Nordity Fiber invests in Ronneby’s municipal fibre network – first partnership of its kind in Sweden

Infranode’s fibre platform, Nordity Fiber, acquires a 65% stake in Ronneby’s municipal fibre network at an enterprise value of SEK 417 million. The transaction, approved yesterday by Ronneby Municipal Council, means that Ronneby Municipality will retain a 35% ownership stake through Ronneby Miljö och Teknik AB. The transaction marks the first partnership of its kind in Sweden, in which a municipal fibre network gains a private co-owner through a long-term co-ownership model.

The transaction establishes a new long-term ownership structure for the newly formed company, Ronneby Stadsnät. Under the partnership, the municipality will remain an active co-owner, while Nordity Fiber will assume operational responsibility for the continued development of the business.

The partnership combines municipal anchoring and control with specialist expertise, experience in developing local fibre infrastructure, and access to external capital. The municipality’s influence will be safeguarded through shareholder agreements and a jointly agreed business plan. Similar co-ownership models have previously been implemented by Infranode in other areas of infrastructure in partnership with municipalities across the Nordics.

Ronneby Municipality has approximately 29,000 inhabitants, 13,600 households and 2,900 businesses. Around 11,000 households are currently connected to the network.

Through Nordity Fiber, Infranode continues to build a Nordic platform for long-term investments in local fibre infrastructure.

– Ronneby’s municipal fibre network is already a well-managed business with strong local roots. We look forward to building on that foundation and contributing additional resources and expertise. Our ambition is to increase network penetration, strengthen resilience, and continue developing a fibre network that meets the digital needs of households, businesses, and public services across the municipality,” says Jonas Persson, CEO, Nordity Fiber.

– The investment in Ronneby marks an important step in our continued commitment to Nordic fiber infrastructure. Through Nordity Fiber, we are building a long-term platform for investments in local and critical digital infrastructure. This is our sixth fiber investment in the Nordics and our first in Sweden, strengthening our presence in the Swedish market,” says Max Engardt, Investment Director, Infranode.

– For Ronneby Municipality, it is important to ensure both local control and development capacity. With Nordity Fiber as a co-owner, we gain a long-term partner with specialist expertise in fiber infrastructure. This strengthens our ability to develop the municipal fiber network, meet future capacity demands, and contribute to a competitive digital environment for welfare development and growth,” says Ola Robertsson (S), Chair of the Municipal Executive Committee, Ronneby Municipality.

The transaction is subject to approval by the Inspectorate of Strategic Products, ISP, following a national security review and is expected to be completed during the summer of 2026.
